Work completed in the fortnight was totalled, presented, and only then billed. The owner always knew what was being paid for and against which stage.

Every material was invoiced in his name, against at least three market quotes he could see. The supplier was his call.
What the owner said
I was braced for the fight everyone says you get on a building site. It never came. Every fortnight I got the measurement, and I knew exactly where the money had gone.
